Wedding photography without the awkwardness
I’m Derek, a Nottingham-based wedding photographer covering the East Midlands and beyond.
My approach is relaxed, natural and people-focused. Most of the day is about capturing things as they really happen: the nerves, the laughter, the hugs, the tiny looks, the big moments, and all the wonderfully unscripted bits happening around the edges.
I know plenty of people feel awkward in front of a camera, so I do not expect you to arrive knowing how to pose. I’ll give direction when it helps, step back when the moment needs space, and keep things calm, friendly and unforced.
Style-wise, I lean towards natural documentary wedding photography, with room for a little drama when the light, location or weather gives us something special. Nothing stiff. Nothing painfully staged. Just photographs that feel like your day, with a few properly gorgeous portraits along the way.
I also believe good communication matters. Before the wedding, we’ll talk through the day, the timings, the important people, and anything you are nervous about. On the day itself, I’ll be there to photograph what happens, help where needed, and avoid turning your wedding into an all-day photoshoot.
If that sounds like the kind of wedding photography you are after, I’d love to hear what you have planned.
