From Character Portraits to Curtain Calls


Some of these images are built like portraits. Some are caught mid-performance. Some sit somewhere in the deliciously dramatic space between the two.

That’s the joy of photographing theatre, actors and performers: the moment can be posed, rehearsed, improvised, ridiculous, heartbreaking, or one eyebrow away from total melodrama.


The job is to catch the spark before it vanishes. The expression. The costume. The lighting. The tiny flicker where the person disappears and the character steps forward.
